Are we over the edge?

By Rick Manning — I wonder if we have lost our nation.

I don’t come to the conclusion lightly.  But, If those Americans who take more in benefits from the government than they produce have not already overwhelmed the system to form an effective majority, they are perilously close.

As early as elementary school, I wondered how the Roman Empire fell and could not understand it.  I learned something of the dole system that was established to help make the poor dependent upon the Imperial government, but did not fully understand the correlations.

Now, America is on the verge of putting itself on auto-pilot to insignificance, crushed under the weight of debt to support those who have the political numbers to protect themselves from the necessary spending cuts that would save our country.

The government itself has grown so large that too many Americans look at it as the founder of their feast rather than a necessary evil.

So, while the people will rise up on issues that affect their entertainment like the Wikipedia led outrage over the Internet piracy bill, they are sanguine on real issues that cut to the heart of our nation’s survival.

Since October 1, 2008, our nation has spent $5.2 trillion more than we have taken in, and the size and scope of government continues to expand.  To put the total national debt into perspective, 15.2 trillion dollars is the equivalent of 15,251 billion dollars or one million dollars multiplied 15.251 million times.  And we keep adding more than one million dollars multiplied by a million to it every year.

To make matters worse, the U.S. Congress’ Joint Committee on Taxation found that in 2009, 51 percent of all households, which includes filers and non-filers, paid no income tax for tax year 2009.  In the same year, the Committee also found that 30 percent of households that filed taxes received more money back from the government than they paid into it throughout the year.

In addition, the Wall Street Journal quotes just released U.S. Census Bureau data which shows that 48.6 percent of Americans live in a household receiving some form of taxpayer funded assistance.

That’s right.  Almost one half of Americans are at least partial beneficiaries of some kind of government dole, and according to USA Today only 54 percent of the people who file tax returns end up paying any taxes at all.

Just sixteen years ago, three out of four tax filers paid some taxes, making the lower taxes argument a clear political winner.  But today, with almost half of tax filers not paying any taxes and many of those actually getting more back from the government than they paid in, the political advantage enjoyed by those who pay taxes over those who demand services has been lost.

The political advantage lies with the 49 percent of the people who are in households getting taxpayer assistance instead of those who make the money and pay the freight.

The very best case scenario is that America is at the tipping point where the balance between those who demand government services and those who pay for them is teetering, and the parasites are about to overwhelm the host.

Incredibly, in the end, the parasites are likely to not only demand that the producers provide for them, but also that their hosts apologize for providing goods or services of sufficient value to create an income that puts them in the taxed rather than beneficiary category.

This upcoming election will determine if the beneficiaries of government control the ballot box.  If they do and Obama is re-elected, the producers of wealth in America can only hope to fight an ever more futile rear guard action as even the politicians who pretend to support them are truly only milking them for their personal gain.

Obama’s new normal will be established with ever lower expectations for individual wealth from an increasingly diminished economy, and the President will have kept his 2008 campaign promise to transform America.

There is no other issue facing our nation that is more important than this battle between those who are government wards and those who pay the freight.

America has a choice of who she wants to be in the future.  I pray that the voters choose wisely.

We are close to the edge, and will either fall or recover depending upon the results of the November 2012 elections.  Unless there is massive urban civil unrest prior to the elections and President Obama declares martial law and cancels or delays the elections, in which case the edge of the precipice is closer than we think.  Tom Jefferson opined that we would probably need a revolution every 20 years or so to keep the federal government from accruing too much power to themselves.  (…”It is the right of the People to alter or abolish it…”)  So far we have had only one (the Civil War…).  We may be on the edge of more than just a political cliff…

This is why we cannot recover our nation at the ballot box. The ballot box is lost because of the sheer numbers of deadbeat voters. Can you see why this beast is gearing up to protect itself with laws enabling it to arrest American citizens? The next step is a full-fledge revolt which is a natural law of such behavior. At some point those paying the bills will rebel, which is the reason for 1776. In the end, violence will erupt because the piper must be paid. Rome fell because of this debachary, and any nation that follows Rome’s example will pay the same price. America must repent and turn back to God to save the republic, but I see no sign of that happening and it appears that a total and complete collapse is needed to ‘correct’ the people.

These benefits are not sustainable on the federal, state or local level. I don’t believe that the American people are like those in Europe that continue to be slaves to the government worker. When Americans (private sector) see the majority of their paycheck going into other peoples pension plans there will be no motivation to continue to work, have a business. Services will decline and everyone becomes a ward of the state.

The Takers outnumber the Makers…we are the Roman Republic. We will decline to the point where the Canadians will be able to best us.

“If Obama is re-elected,” or if we elect one of the other big government leftists dressed up as Republicans.  The internet is a wonderful thing: we can gaze into the past in seconds with a few keystrokes and to see who lives by what they preach.  There is only one candidate who is interested in truly cutting spending and returning to free market principles instead of only paying lip service to them and he’s been consistent on that position with what he says and how he votes for over 35 years.

We are headed in the same direction as Rome, but we have a tremendous opportunity to begin to change that course.  All it takes is for more people to wake up and understand the difference between wolves in sheep’s clothing and genuine fiscal conservatives.  http://youtu.be/n5I0E75G8-g

That and our children have been dumbed down to such a level that the concept of stealing from those who produce to buy votes from those who do not is not even considered wrong or contra productive   The teachers union is destroying this country and seem to think they will be immune when the house of cards falls in on itself.

The brutally honest truth is that government has grown to the point that the productive wealth creating portion of society can no longer support it.

I am not sure that this election will address this concern. The brightest hope I can see, as a registered Republican and Republican supporter since Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, is a “Draft Hillary” option. Because the GOP field and GOP party seem immune to addressing the problems. They are still focused on milking anyone with deep pockets.

Actually, I believe, there are more deadbeats in this country now than producers.  And these social parasites vote multiple times which magnifies their impact on elections.  Since the job of congress is to get reelected, they will continue to sponsor more and more “social” programs to ensure they get this vote.

Draft Hillary, as in Clinton? Globalists will only further Americas demise. Go do some research. Start with the acronym ‘CFR’.

I believe the calculation in the article is off.
Even when you pay some taxes, you are still taking more from the system than contributing.  The break even point is when you pay enough to cover your usage.
About 200 million out of 308 million are takers living off the givers.
Same is true for Europe and countries of the West.

    Biggest beneficiaries of government subsidies?

First ,the “Too big to fail banks” that lobbied 30 years for financial deregulation and destruction of the robust banking system that was set up after the Great Depression. They operate with a full backstop from the Fed, taking the upside bonuses and passing the downside risk onto the American tax payers.

Second, Big Pharma lobbing to keep government from negotiating drug prices and cover reformulated drug under patent protection.

Third, military contractors. Remember the last contract that came in under budget? I didn’t think so.

Farmers, some of the wealthiest corporations and individuals have been drawing billions in government subsidies. You could include in that the subsidies ADM gets to produce ethanol.

Before we go after American citizens who don’t have the means to lobby congress or give millions to get access the government officials. Maybe we should think about who really has the power and ability to control what our government does.

I have been driven to the point that I now believe that those who do not pay taxes should not be allowed to vote.  Our country actually started out that way; only land owners could vote.

Sorry, but you are wrong, the Congress is already in “milking” mode and we can no longer expect anything but abuse at the hands of this gov’t. The only chance that we could be saved is if, by God’s grace, Ron Paul is elected. He is the only one who genuinely wants to restore America to Constitutional principles and government, and not just “be President”. We MUST choose Ron Paul, or it won’t matter who wins.

Let everyone vote!  One vote per $10,000 of taxes paid over the previous presidential election cycle!  That’s fair that the folks who pay the bills get the most say over how the money is spent.  Furthermore, make manditory minimum jail time and really hefty fines for voter fraud, and prohibit the president from fundraising or campaigning anyplace he has arrived at via taxpayer expense.  If he wants to raise funds or campaign, make him fly back to the Whitehouse and pay the freight for the trip, including the security expenses that would otherwise not be incurred.  And while we’re at it, why do the taxpayers get to fork over several million dollars a few times a year for first family entourages expenses for vacations?  Why does the First Lady get a multi-million dollar annual budget and a taxpayer financed staff of up to a hundred or more, and private offices in the Whitehouse?  If we elected an unmarried president, would he get an extra five, ten or twenty million a year to hire some bimbo to fulfill the so-called duties of the first lady?  As I see it, her only “duty” is to her husband.  She isn’t elected, so why does she have an official voice?  And anyone who thinks she doesn’t have one, well, have I got a deal on a bridge for you!
