Rep. Paul Ryan opposes SOPA

Rep. Paul RyanRep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) has announced that he will opposes H.R. 3261 Stop Online Privacy Act also known as SOPA!

According to Rep. Ryan:

“The internet is one of the most magnificent expressions of freedom and free enterprise in history. It should stay that way. While H.R. 3261, the Stop Online Piracy Act, attempts to address a legitimate problem, I believe it creates the precedent and possibility for undue regulation, censorship and legal abuse. I do not support H.R. 3261 in its current form and will oppose the legislation should it come before the full House.”

Good. It’s a bad, badly written, free-speech-murdering bill.

Others should do the same. H.R.3261 should be scrapped and no one who believes in Freedom of Speech should support any legislation that “interferes” with the use of the internet. Government is the least qualified to address any potential problem with it.  Ryan is correct in believing that it ”
creates the precedent and possibility for undue regulation, censorship and legal abuse.
