No time for collaboration

By Bill Wilson — So, what have we learned from the most fractious Presidential election of my lifetime?  We have learned that if you put $1 billion behind a campaign of cynicism, racial division, class warfare, and extreme pettiness an incumbent with one of the worst records in modern times can barely squeak into a second term.  And with such a narrow and demeaning “win,” what exactly does Barack Obama think he has achieved?

Well, to paraphrase Ronald Reagan, he gets nice public housing for another four years.  And, of course, there will be plenty of golf and parties and trips.  But what does he hope to achieve for the American people, what does he think this campaign of small-things gets him?

The answer, oddly enough, is not in his hands.  Under normal circumstances, a re-elected President can direct the debate.  He has set out an agenda or has done so well in the first term that the country simply wants “more of the same.”  Nobody – and I mean nobody – wants four more years of the same inane, vapid socialism of Obama’s first term.  But, if Obama cannot determine the course we take, who does?

That answer is yet to be decided.  The reason the issue is in doubt is because we do not yet know what the Republicans in Congress will do.  They have a very real choice.  The Republicans can surrender to Obama, collaborate with his regime and institutionalize his radical, leftist agenda.

Or, they can fight; fight to the last man standing, refusing to concede an inch to an alien ideology that at its core is opposed to the founding principles and ethic of the nation.

What will the GOP in Congress be; Free and defiant, standing up for principle and fighting Obama and his cronies.  Or, will they cower at the sight of Obama’s meager margin and do his dirty work for him?

There are plenty of those inside the GOP who will want to cut and run.  Colin Powell, Ray LaHood, a host of northeast liberals, and more than a few in positions of power inside the House all embrace collaboration.  Seeing nothing worth fighting for, they are all too ready to peddle themselves to the highest bidder.

And on the surface, for all too many GOP officials, such a course may appear the easier, softer way.  After all, taking such a path will be sure to get rave reviews from the propaganda organs of the establishment-Left.  They will be invited to all the right parties and be hailed as having “grown” and being a “good Republican.”  Future employment opportunities will look very bright.

But there is another side to this.  To millions of conservative, free-market advocates and the core of the Republican Party they will be reviled and hated.  For these grassroots activists, such actions by their representatives in Congress or in Governors’ mansions will be viewed as outright treason.  Knowing that all the House of Representatives has to do is refuse to fund Obama’s monster government and the whole thing stops will mean that anything less is sure to be met with intense anger and resistance.

How this existential debate inside the GOP plays out will decide the next four years.  While it would have been better to have an adult partner in the White House instead of the childish, churlish Obama, it is of really little consequence.  The real battle for the future of America is inside the Republican caucuses.

The House doesn’t have the guts to force the hand of the administration … Get someone like Sarah Palin for speaker! Then you will see some action.

  • Forget it. The only way John Boener knows is to enter every encounter with the Democrats bent over and backwards. For all the good a Republican house is, we might just as well have it controlled by the Democrats. So sad!

The blog said, “Nobody – and I mean nobody – wants four more years of the same inane, vapid
    socialism of Obama’s first term.”
Not so. 6 Trillion dollars bought a lot of votes. This is how all the evil dictators of the world have acheived power – they either bought the support, or killed those to didn’t. The killing could be next.

Colaborate for 2 years. Let Obama fail miserably. Then tell him enough, you are a failure and we’re taking over.

Damn it … I meant to write: Collaborate … keep making the same spelling mistake. 🙁

  • By a rough approach, the statements of our Representatives say imply that a change is going to allow additional taxes, etc., to avoid the fiscal cliff. The very first goal is to put a stop to the ridiculous spending, but programs, cut money to programs that can be put off to later “good” times, and get SERIOUS about attacking our debt. The approach that I desire to see more taxes is NOT allowed. The government-both Fed and State are looking for tax money anywhere and anyhow possible to feed their coffer and it is all at OUR expense. If we provide MORE they will spend MORE!!

If the Republican leadership collaborates, they can face the same fate as obama and can be labelled as traitors to their country.

  • Patriot

Let it go over the cliff and then start rebuilding.
Who are all these numb-nuts who failed to vote in an effort to save this country?
Fewer people voted than in 2008? Give me a fricken break. What were these morons thinking. They obviously weren’t!

  • Patriot

Your not too far off. One of obama’s czars during an interview stated they would need to kill 20 million Americans. Those who are left will be easier to control!

This is what we get when we sleep at the switch. I say, get them before they get us.

“Under normal circumstances, a re-elected President can direct the debate. He has set out an agenda…”

You might not like Obama’s agenda, but he’s been very, very clear about
what he wants to do. Obama wants a giant deal on the deficit that
includes both cuts and more revenue from taxes.

Maybe you think slightly higher taxes for the wealthy is a terrible idea, but that’s the agenda that Obama has promised. He said it practically every time he left the
house, at almost every speech he made. He even promised to raise taxes
    in a campaign ad.

Voters heard that and a majority voted him in.

We will soon see if there is enough spine in the House to do what it can do. I expect the party of capitulation to capitulate. That is what they have always done in the past and I expect them to do the same thing now. There are worse things than Congressional gridlock, and one of them is a rampent and unconstrained Ovomit. The House should refuse to fund any Ovomit care stuff and to demand without faltering a fiscally sound agenda. I would like to see them defund by about 90% the EPA, which is crippling our entire economy. There is lots more also but I won’t go into it here.

China is going to flex its muscle and Obama will bow to them to get more money. Those who voted for this poseur for their free birth control and obamaphones don’t really care what happens as long as they get their goodies. When the freebies stop because of lack of money the killing will begin. They will not allow their “free stuff” to stop and will do whatever they have to to keep the bribes coming, look at Greece.

  • Nurse56

The increased taxes aren’t enough to fund a month of spending. They are a way to get the increases started. He will raise taxes across the board to get the money to keep the bribes going. Any one who has any income or savings will be raided for the Dems to keep their power. There are already plans to raid personal 401K plans .

  • Go for it, Bill . . . never give up despite the facts. The right wing spent much more than the left, but Obama still won. You wouldn’t know that from your first paragraph, though. “Nobody wants more of the same.” Well, that’s probably true, but obviously it’s not Obama they want gone. Sure, raising taxes on billionaires by a couple percentage points will be “treason” and proscribed in any attempt to avoid disaster. What fatuous nonsense. What nobody wants more of the same of is the extreme right wing fringe who cannot compromise in the least regard. Every quibble deserves a filibuster. Minority rule. What nobody wants more of is “legitimate rape” and a rape pregnancy is a gift from god, or it’s fine if a huge proportion of the population has no practicable health care, or the catholic church can act as a political agent and still be tax exempt. Nobody wants more of your “liberty” and “freedom” to pollute the air and water, either. Well, i guess I am in error. There are plenty of people on this forum who want exactly that, but, fortunately, they are not going to get it, or at least not easily, and the more they despise any compromise or accommodation the more marginalized they will become. So maybe that’s a good thing – go ahead and keep shooting yourself in the foot.

  • Patriot

Numb-nuts in general do not understand that there lot in life will not be advanced on bit if you took all the combined wealth of the wealthy.

Obama has always played upon the brain-dead with his class warfare gibberish. He needs to be put down so the nation can move on.

  • apsteach

    “No time for collaboration”?????
Okay – so if the country fails it’s because you people refuse to cooperate? Grow up! The ONLY folks who can truly “take back America” are the Native Americans – they should have closed the borders long ago. Obviously enough people are sick of your piety.

  • topeka

Bill, why are you being optimistic?

Didn’t I hear the Speaker vowing to surrender in all but back-handed insults to the base?

    Yeah! Way!

Always wanted to be a serf …. Not!

  • topeka

    piled higher and deeper,

    ha, ha, ha…

buddy, do you have a brain?

Everything you write in your post is a lie, if not a Big Lie.

Why do you show up here?

To tell us what brainless, nonsensical, haters, and bigots post like. Stupid, ignorant, angry, death-loving, violence-loving, lie-loving, “bloviators.

    You made day!! ;-))
